Mary Ellen Ruff
Assistant Professor of Art Therapy
Mary Ellen Ruff is a Licensed Professional Counselor (VA and DC), Board Certified Art Therapist, and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) currently working in private practice and as an Assistant Professor of Art Therapy at the George Washington University. She has a Master of Science in Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at Capella University. Her dissertation research is focused on exploring art therapy supervision best practices and what occurs in the intersubjective supervisory space. Mary Ellen is interested in integrating neuroscience in the emotional and cognitive experience of supervision, particularly using creative and art-based techniques, and the neuroscience of relational processes in the supervisory encounter.
